Remarkably comprehensive DVD set on December 7th 1941
I have had the pleasure of purchasing several of these documentary series' including "The Great War: WWI," "The Forgotten War: Korea," and "D-Day Code Name: Overlord," by far this set is the most impressive of the lot. The set is wonderfully comprehensive with actual interviews with Japanese pilots and American sailors eyewitnesses and participants who managed to survive that fateful day. Extensive newsreel footage, as well as analysis by military historians explain the reasons why Japan decided to attack the naval base--a decision the Imperial Navy, we learn, would later regret. A second disc details the not often seen footage from recent salvage efforts, what exactly went wrong, and including the hows and whys the U.S. should have been better prepared to meet the Japanese attack. The documentary also analyzes the alleged role Japanese-Hawaiians may have played on the attack as well as the fateful mistakes that were made at every command level from the battlelines to the White House...
Amazing Four Hour Documentary Regarding Pearl Harbor Attack
I thoroughly enjoyed this two set video series concerning the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. It helped me to more clearly understand how the Japanese military was able to carry out the plans set in motion a few years earlier. I had not realized that American intelligence was unaware of its ability to launch torpedoes from airplanes. This may have made the ultimate difference. And no, Franklin D. Roosevelt did not let the Japanese successfully attack our installations on Pearl Harbor simply to get the United States into the war. The consensus opinion was that Hirohito's forces would pick an easier target. I am sure that the vast majority of us living today would have committed the same mistake had we been in their shoes.
The final hour of this series involves a fictional discussion between Uncle Sam and History. I found it interesting how the participants went out of their way to assert that few Japanese-Americans were disloyal to their country. Their patriotism was...
Attack On Pearl Harbor
Very good information on Pearl Harbor, and was in perfect condition when I recieved this product. Very impressed with it. Anyone interested in our history's past needs to at least watch this or put it with your collection. It is one of a kind for anyone that wants more information on Pearl Harbor.
