Falling

No safety net . . .
This Austrian film presents a day in the life of five 30-something women (plus a sullen teenager), all it seems on the verge of a nervous breakdown. Each of them is single, and one of them is pregnant. Former schoolgirl friends, they gather for the funeral of a teacher, who it turns out has had romantic attachments to two or more of them. A wedding celebration provides diversion from grieving - grieving chiefly over how the freedom they once felt as school girls has left them bereft emotionally, as they leave youth behind.

There are flashbacks to their youthful voices singing American folk ballads and songs ("We Shall Overcome") and flash-forwards to still images of plot turns still to come. An evening at a dance club called "Brooklyn" becomes an occasion for heavy drinking and topless dancing, plus brief intimate interludes with the bridegroom, who has all the charm of a pony-tailed viper. There's a lot of talk, but much that might reveal the private hell each of them...

entertaining
enjoyed watching five ladies trying to find their way through life, like the rest of us. it is nice to see another country's culture.

Enemy At the Gates / Uncommon Valor (Double Feature)

Enemy at the Gates
While "Enemy at the Gates" initially overviews the horrendous battle that took place for possession of Stalingrad between the Germans and Russians in World War Two, it is, in fact, a movie of great suspense focusing on two top snipers from either side.
I recommend that you look at the promo section before viewing the film as it gives you a great understanding of its direction. The principal aim of the film is to focus on the blue eyes of the two snipers as they concentrate looking through their scopes. It is brilliant direction.
Enemy at the Gates is a wonderful film of action and suspense from start to finish. I recommend it to all who want to view a realistic, action film of historical significance.

great
when you can make life a little easier with a movie than this is a real good movie to watch...

Enemy at the Gate/Uncommon Valor
A good double feature.Enemy at the Gate, based on truth a good point with me.Uncommon Valor it could have happened!

Angels Fall

Different from the book, but good enough on its own to be worth watching...
"Angel's Fall", based on a book written by Nora Roberts, is an engaging movie that is likely to entertain you, and that has enough ingredients of a good thriller to keep you at the edge of your seat.

The main character is Reece (Heather Locklear), a young woman that survived a massacre in her Boston restaurant and has been running from what happened, never settling too long anywhere. Despite that, she decides to settle at least for a little while in a small but very beautiful Wyoming town, Angel's Falls. Reece gets a job at a diner, manages to make some new friend and even meets Brody (Johnathon Schaech), a handsome writer she is somewhat attracted to, even though he irritates her. Unfortunately, Reece's luck doesn't hold, and she ends up witnessing from afar what seems to be a murder. But did Reece really saw a crime, or is she so traumatized by what happened to her in Boston that she is imagining things?

If you are interested in knowing what happened and how...

Male Lead Almost Worth Watching it For
I have not read the book, but for a TV movie I thought this started out pretty well. The mountainous Western setting is beautiful and the story line kept my interest. Locklear's peculiar facial cosmetic semi-disfigurement is distracting, but the leading man had no such problems, was pretty good, engaging, and so very easy on the eyes. Sadly, the last half degenerated into a laughable made for TV movie. The best was when she was running through a birch tree forest, hysterical with fear, out in the middle of nowheresville on the side of a mountain and was miraculously found by both the boyfriend AND the sherrif simultaneously. WTH? Was she running with a tracking device? The very last scene was kind of like the director yelled "That's a wrap!" before anyone was ready or prepared. Very odd.

Entertaining fare with Heather Locklear
I thought the movie was a fine effort - Heather Locklear and Johnathon Schaech do well in their roles, and the plot follows the Nora Roberts formula for the most part, even if not exactly in all the details of the book (what movie does?). Yes, Locklear is a bit older than her lead (in reality we're only talking 8 years). In today's world that's hardly the point, but a few of the reviewers seem to be preoccupied with that rather than the merits of the movie & want to count wrinkles (geez, go play in your room if you've nothing else to do). Locklear, like a number of other mid-aged actresses (Jennifer Aniston, Michelle Pfeiffer, Sharon Stone, Halley Berry anyone?) looks good. It's refreshing that not all actresses have to be 20-somethings for these roles, and frankly, it's about time. We aren't talking Oscar material here, but these kind of movies never are - they're supposed to be lighter fare, like a beach novel, with a bit of suspense, a twist of mystery & romance thrown in, &...

The Dog Problem

QUIRKY, FUNNY, INSIGHTFUL AND VERY ENTERTAINING!
Being a big fan of Giovanni Ribisi, I had to see this little movie. I was pleasantly surprised watching this well written tale of a writer who has become unable to write, function and has run out of money to pay for his therapy. His therapist suggest he buy a pet, so the young writer buys a cute little dog to take care of and hopefully help him get out of his unhealthy daily routine.

The film is full of good performances and insight. The dog is completely mesmerizing as he does little to convey so much. The scenes with the dog just doing nothing with the comical score in the background are priceless! It's a very entertaining movie with a great cast and impressive direction by Scott Caan(James son), who wrote and also plays Ribisi's best friend. This is a cool film that is like a short subject, but has a lot to offer bewteen the lines. I can see this becoming a cult favorite!

Very Enjoyable and Insightful Film
This is a little film with a big heart. It is truly an independant film and shows what the genre is capable of. The always reliable Giovanni Ribisis is hilarious here as a down trodden writer with writers block who is miserable and lonely with life plus broke on top of it all. He has been in daily therapy for a year and when he needs to stop due to funds his therapist suggests he get a pet.

Our main character gets a dog and half heartedly tries to take to the new addition in his life. He desperately fears the attachment. Many characters enter the story and all end up getting involved with the story of the dog. Our writer meets a woman with whom he starts to form a friendship which is also new to him.

The dog is perfectly cast and has great film presence. Your heart will melt. The acting here is all superb and the story flows along and will surprise you with a very emotional ending. The self discovery our main character goes through due to the dogs...

The Dog Steals the Show
Remember the lovable pooch in "As Good As It Gets"?? The dog almost stoled the movie from Jack Nicholson and Helen Hunt. Well this quirky little film, shot in Los Angeles, is another one! I rented this movie twice before I decided it had to be in my "Permanent" Collection. Giovanni Ribisi is perfect in this film as a "depressed" writer (In LA? come on!!) and the supporting cast doesn't let you down. A real indy delight.

Thicker Than Water / Ordinary Miracles

Thicker than Water
Melissa Gilbert and Lindsey Wagner, two of my favorite actors. Good movie, about strong wills, compassion and falling in love. This Hallmark movie is worth watching. Oh, and if you're a horse lover, you won't be sorry.

Great movies
Our whole family love these two movies. Hallmark once again has done a great job. Great for a family night.

Wonderful movies!!!
I loved both of these movies. Being a mother, I have always looked for movies that are family friendly. Both of these movies meet that criteria. Melissa Gilbert, Lindsey Wagner and Jaclyn Smith are three of my favorite actresses.

10 Minute Solution: Tone Trouble Zones

Great workout ;-)
This is another fantastic workout from 10 Minute Solution. There's no excuse for not doing some form of workout when there are these kinds of workouts on the market. This particular dvd is really good and will definately help to get rid of your trouble zones.
Each of the segments uses a resistance band to help you sculpt various areas of your body - you get a 6 foot band with the dvd. When you change your hold on the band, you get different intensity with every move you do. You can make up your own routine by mixing up the order in which you play this. There is the usual upper body, lower body, abs, arms and shoulders and a complete body segment. Amy is a brilliant instructor who is enthusiastic and encouraging, but not annoying. She cues really well and that just makes this whole workout that much better.
If you are short on time, then this is for you. You can do either 10 minutes alone or join a couple of segments together to get a longer workout. You will have to...

Exercising with the resistance band DVD
This is my first experience with an exercise DVD and I love working with the resistance band while doing exercises. The explanations are cleaar and easy to follow and even though I am 70 years old, I am committed to getting into shape. The exercises are fun and even though I cannot do the floor exercises, I do what I can and feel good about it!

Love It!!!!!!!
Although I have been an avid Amazon shopper for nearly 10 years, this is the first time I felt inclined to write a review. I love this DVD. I love that you can customize your workouts (i.e. Monday: Thighs and Butt, then Upper Body), Tuesday Upper Body, Ten Minute Stretch, etc.) to fit your specific needs and time frame. I usually add one ten minute session to the end of a cardio workout (walking, biking), and helps to rev up my metabolism even more! Amy is so great! She is very motivating - it seems like she is right there in the room with you encouraging you not to stop. The only reason I did not give it 5 stars was that there is not a lot of explanation of the moves, and she moved quickly from one move to the next...likewise, it may be a bit challenging for some beginners. To help with this, I would suggest watching it a few times through before trying it for yourself.

Footloose / Flashdance (Double Feature)

Footloose/Flashdance Double Feature
I purchased this double feature for my daughter who has never seen Footloose. The bonus was getting the Flashdance movie. They are both movies I loved as a teenager, and my daughter has watched Footloose at least 10 times already! The price for both was FANTASTIC, and delivery was less than a week!! Very happy with my purchase from Amazon.com and will continue to look for those good old movies that are too hard to find at a great price in stores!

Sincerely,
Kelly Monasmith

Awesome combo
I was looking for Footloose -one of my all-time faves- but I'm a fan of both movies so I instantly saw the brilliance in putting these together; this double disc combo really is perfect. Both of these movies are meant to be inspiring, and of course the rockin' music and fabulous choreography have always pumped me up to WANT to dance, so this combo is kind of like a life-affirming, super-fun and calorie-burning 3-4 hour aerobic set! Pop em in and get up and dance! It sounds cheesy but if you appreciate these movies the way I do, you know what I'm talking about!

Footloose of course is about a cool city-boy stuck in a small-town with closed-minded, painfully strict church-loving and God-fearing people who believe that dancing and rock n roll are sinful devil's work that do nothing but make kids want to copulate (and the problem is....?). City-boy shows them the truth (music in all forms is good for the soul, and dancing is man's way of celebrating life! Ain't THAT the truth?!)...

Poor transfer to DVD
I haven't yet looked at the Flashdance portion of this DVD, but Footloose is a very poor transfer. There is dirt and spots throughout the film and most scenes are very soft and blurry. At least it's presented in anamorphic widescreen.

Quick Pick

Must See.
Awesome. Miami natives will be able to relate to the running themes of this movie. Some people won't get it but I laughed a lot. Good moral!

Cheesy, Low-Budget Flick
A certain red-envelope service refers to the main character as "lovable loser." I think they say that because he's so progressive. They show him spending time with old ladies and being friendly with his gay, Cuban-American co-worker. I can appreciate the PC vibe of this character. However, he has a dead-end job and just got an eviction notice, but he buys his friends and almost anyone else beer.

This film has bad acting and bad actors with bad timing. Every other word out of his mouth and that of his buddies is "dude." This movie should be condemned for the same reason that Judd Apatow's are: they make plain-looking males look good, but all the female characters are super models. In both examples, John Doe can get the hot woman by the end, but there is no space for Plain Jane. She can never use her jokes or vibrant personality to get a hot guy. These type of films try to challenge injustice, but only so far as it helps a group of men, not both genders...

Thomas & Friends: Carnival Capers

Carnival Capers - familiar faces and new friends too!
My 2 year old daughter loves Thomas and Friends! I really enjoy watching too, and this DVD is one of my favorites. The familiar engines (Thomas, Percy, James, Gordon, Edward, Henry, Emily, and Toby) make appearances, and several newer characters are introduced or featured, such as Rosie, Rocky, and Sir Handel. Here is a list of episodes on the Carnival Capers DVD and the special features in between episodes. I've also included the engines that appear in each episode.

Percy And The Carnival - The engines getting ready for the carnival, but Percy is jealous because he only gets to deliver coal. (Thomas, Edward, Henry, Gordon, Toby, James, Emily, and the Chinese Dragon appear in this episode)

Which engine is hidden under the coal dust?

Thomas And The Birthday Mail - This story introduces Rosie, a new engine, for the first time. Rosie wants to be just like Thomas, but Thomas gets really annoyed that Rosie is always following him around. (Harold...

Charming & Entertaining
You can't go wrong with this video. Loaded with lots of Thomas's friends, cute sing along songs, short stories, long stories, and interactive guessing games (just like the TV show). My son is 21 months and loves Thomas & Friends as seen on PBS, but since it is only on a few days a week, we purchased a few videos. He loved this one. Not a single complaint. Another great feature of HIT programing is that you don't have to press play several times to get the vidoe to begin - it begins the program automatically...great for when your tot is in a hurry for Thomas, or you need to calm him/her quickly with no time to spare fussing with the remote over and over or waste time watching a bunch of comercials or pre-movie garbage. GREAT BUY!

By the way, if your little one is like mine and can't get enough Thomas, visit their website [...]. There is so much to do there: games, videos, songs, printable coloring pictures and more. My son loves it!

Very Satisfied
My grandson is 20 months old, and he is enjoying this DVD inmensely!

Attack on Pearl Harbor: A Day of Infamy

Remarkably comprehensive DVD set on December 7th 1941
I have had the pleasure of purchasing several of these documentary series' including "The Great War: WWI," "The Forgotten War: Korea," and "D-Day Code Name: Overlord," by far this set is the most impressive of the lot. The set is wonderfully comprehensive with actual interviews with Japanese pilots and American sailors eyewitnesses and participants who managed to survive that fateful day. Extensive newsreel footage, as well as analysis by military historians explain the reasons why Japan decided to attack the naval base--a decision the Imperial Navy, we learn, would later regret. A second disc details the not often seen footage from recent salvage efforts, what exactly went wrong, and including the hows and whys the U.S. should have been better prepared to meet the Japanese attack. The documentary also analyzes the alleged role Japanese-Hawaiians may have played on the attack as well as the fateful mistakes that were made at every command level from the battlelines to the White House...

Amazing Four Hour Documentary Regarding Pearl Harbor Attack
I thoroughly enjoyed this two set video series concerning the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor. It helped me to more clearly understand how the Japanese military was able to carry out the plans set in motion a few years earlier. I had not realized that American intelligence was unaware of its ability to launch torpedoes from airplanes. This may have made the ultimate difference. And no, Franklin D. Roosevelt did not let the Japanese successfully attack our installations on Pearl Harbor simply to get the United States into the war. The consensus opinion was that Hirohito's forces would pick an easier target. I am sure that the vast majority of us living today would have committed the same mistake had we been in their shoes.

The final hour of this series involves a fictional discussion between Uncle Sam and History. I found it interesting how the participants went out of their way to assert that few Japanese-Americans were disloyal to their country. Their patriotism was...

Attack On Pearl Harbor
Very good information on Pearl Harbor, and was in perfect condition when I recieved this product. Very impressed with it. Anyone interested in our history's past needs to at least watch this or put it with your collection. It is one of a kind for anyone that wants more information on Pearl Harbor.

Dragnet, 2 DVD Set (16 Classics Episodes)

One of two sets that are must have's
This set, distributed by Raintree Home Video, combined with the Brentwood 20 episode set that you can also pick up at Amazon or most places contain essentially all the episodes that are out there from the Original series. The quality here, like the Brentwood set, is not great but certainly watchable and,in places, quite good. It is a shame that this series will probably never get a solid dvd release.

Mighty Machines- Roadways to Runways

Worthwhile viewing
AnOther great video feature for your machine-minded youngsters. They watch and learn from this series of realistic videos about cars, trucks, trains, etc. My grandson watches them REPEATEDLY. Good, friendly, sparse narration that allows the viewer to focus on the visual images and learn so much.

FANTASTIC, action-packed, my kids love it!
My kids LOVE this series. The videos are 90 minutes long, and my kids love watching the cars whoosh around the track and the planes taking off. I recommend this to everyone!

Educational and fun - approved by me and my son
A fantastic DVD for kids! It is very educational and fun at the same time. It shows all aspects of operations in airports, race tracks, etc.
My 4-yr-old son was glued to the TV the whole time. Now after watching it so many times, he loves explaining things to me about the subjects they cover in the DVD.
It was our second DVD from Mighty Machines series and we both recommend it with four thumbs up.
I am so tired of kids programming on cable TVs nowadays - cartoons with rude languages, eyes and limbs popping as reactions to anything...
Mighty Machine series DVDs are so well done. They are fun and keep the kids' attention, but also they explain how things work in real world and boost the kids' confidence as a society member and a learner.

Stay Away, Joe

Cigar smokin', beer drinkin', womanizing Elvis
Stay Away, Joe was filmed in the beautiful Sedona, Az area circa
1968. The aesthetic value of enjoying this unspoiled scenery is
worth the price of admission or price of the video.
A departure from the previous Elvis formula movie...Elvis drinks
beer, smokes cigars, puts the moves on every women he sees, regardless if she is spoken for or not. Oddly enough, Elvis
does not "get the girl." in the end.
Stay Away, Joe is totally slapstick, silly, outrageously camp.
The indian stereotypes are politcially incorrect by today's standards. But both whiteman and indians are portrayed as boozing, brawling buffoons.
This is perhaps the worst editing I ever saw in a film. Fight
scenes and dance scenes and at time the music soundtrack is
uneven and incongruous. Burgess Meredith portrays Elvis' indian
father and is without a doubt the worst makeup job ever fimed.
His makeup looks like it was applied with a putty knife...

They Threw Away The Boilerplate and Still Made a Bomb
If you watch the original trailor or listen to the songs from this movie you can't imagine that it could be so bad - the primary reason is that Native Americans are portrayed in the most stereotypical way possible. This is amazing in light of Elvis' Pacer character from "Flaming Star" eight years before, which received formal recognition as a positive portrayal. The film also has a very low budget look. For Elvis historians, it's possible to view it as a step closer to the '68 TV Special and re-emerged credibility.

Truly dreadful - stay away from Stay Away Joe
I found this at Big Lots for $3.00. One of the most truly dreadful movies ever to use up perfectly good film stock. Now and then there is a scenic view of the beautiful country around Sedona, Arizona, but you would be better off looking at a National Geographic magazine of the same. To call this movie "slapstick" is an insult to the Keystone Kops and Laurel and Hardy. Do not be fooled by the supporting cast of formerly good actors. They must have been desperate for a movie role to have accepted these roles. This must be an example of why Elvis became sick and tired of making cheesy movies and went back to performing on stage. I saw Elvis in person twice (Honolulu, 1957 and San Diego, 1976) so am predisposed to like Elvis. I liked him before he was cool.

Beneath

It was a'right
A depressed young woman who has visions about an accident which eventually caused the death of her older sister returns home to visit her creepy brother-in-law and niece. While there, the niece's grandmother dies and she has a vision right before it happens. The niece confides that there is something 'inside the walls' which is responsible. Some kind of monster. During the course of the investigation, she discovers the house used to be an escape route for local minors and the house is riddled with mysterious hatches and bolt holes.

Initially I found this film suspenseful. But I grew bored waiting for the big reveal. The grandmother, and child, were excessively creepy, and I think it would've been more interesting if the characters were more normal even likeable. The house itself was interesting, but it was never explained why the miners felt the need to make *a house* into an escape hatch for the mines. It would make more sense if the house was part of the Underground...

WHAT DOESN'T LIE BENEATH...
....is a coherent script. Even with that in mind, BENEATH, an MTV co-production with Paramount, holds your interest with a modicum of shrieks. HEROES' Nora Zehetner plays Christie, a young girl traumatized by the death of her sister, in an accident in which she was the driver. Although she survived the crash, Vanessa was burned severely and dies a year later. When people close to Vanessa start dying, Christie is convinced there's more to Vanessa's death than meets the eye.
One major problem I found is Christie's "visions" and her drawings of things and people she doesn't know...there is no real explanation for them, and when the script force feeds a reason, it doesn't make sense. Zehetner is good, as is Matthew Settle as her brother in law. Not bad, but no classic either.

Surprisingly good!
Don't let he MTV logo on the box affect your decision to see this! I was surprised to see that there is a solid story here, characters with personalities, some great acting, and no cheesy nudity. A girl returns to the town she grew up in after a number of years away to attend a funeral. She had been sent away after her sister's funeral with a brother-in-law and niece as her onlt family left. She starts to have blackouts, visions through sketches, and people begin to die. It even has some dark and creepy elements. I recommend this and I would watch it again, even own it.
There is nothing "MTV" about this movie! :)

Not Very Good
This was disappointing. The poses are held for such a brief time that it's hard to derive any benefit. I estimate they're held for 3 to 5 seconds. It's more of a stretch workout than yoga, and I wouldn't even recommend it for stretching because it's just too superficial. You need to hold the stretches/yoga poses longer than this.

Man Stroke Woman - The Complete First Series

Brilliant sketch comedy
I've seen both seasons so far and it is, with out a doubt, my favorite comedy TV series ever. Smart writing, perfect comic timing combined with skits that end, long before they get old and tired. (Like you'll find on SNL.)

Nick Frost (from Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz and the BBC TV-series Spaced -- which happens to be my OTHER favorite comedy) was the initial reason I started watching this series, but the entire cast is brilliantly hilarious.

The only downfall to this series: the short BBC seasons. They very thing that keeps the show's writing sharp, only having six episodes a season, means that you only have 3 hours of laughter in this set. But they're the funniest three hours you'll spend your $20 on.

A combination of brilliance and boredom
There is no middle ground in this series. Some of the sketches are brilliant (usually the ones featuring Nick Frost) and some are Saturday Night Live-like in their idiocy and those are usually the ones that, also in SNL fashion, are repeated so often you want to scream (if I hear that guy cry one more time...). It feels like the writers were rushing to meet a deadline or something. They are clearly talented and the actors and actresses themselves are generally very good but about half of it falls short in my opinion. Yes, it's worth the money. Yes, if you are a fan of British comedy check it out. Yes, if you love the Simon Pegg-Nick Frost projects check it out. But there are far better things out there.

engaging performers with so-so material
As a fan of British comedy, I was looking forward to watching this series. Having done so, I come away disappointed. The engaging young performers here are hamstrung with some mediocre material. You'll find scene after scene of comic actors not playing the top of their intelligence, and consequently reacting the way no person would ever react. This is comedy writing which would believe that contradiction is the ultimate comedic feat. It is not, and Man Stroke Woman suffers from a dearth of truly funny sketches. Sometimes the situation is nominally funny, but we're asked to watch the characters dealing with it and each other with minimal amounts of insight. Not particularly funny. I would recommend Mr. Show over this. Too bad, because the performers themselves are quite likeable.

Max Havoc - Ring of Fire

Even Dean Cain couldn't save this movie!!
I am a huge Dean Cain fan and even I have to say that this movie was terrible. Dean is the only shining light in this movie and they don't use him in enough scenes to save it. The love story between Christina Cox and Max Havoc is totally unbelievable and happens way too quickly. The acting by Mickey Hardt as Max Havoc is bad and his range of emotions is non-existent. The setting for most of the movie is very dark and they made poor Rae Dawn Chong look horrible as a nun who heads the mission in town. The best scenes involve Dean Cain, but he probably should have been cast as the hero, then maybe it would have been better. He is the only reason I'm giving this movie 2 stars. It's not his fault, he didn't write the movie, and he did the best he could with his part. One of his best scenes to look out for is the big fight scene at the end.

Dean looks good with blonde hair!!! :)
It's strange not seeing Dean's black hair, I mean he's 1/4 Japanese. Look at his eyes and hair color. He dyed it for this movie!

Dean Cain is an amazing handsome man, and a great actor! Dean and Teri- best TV couple!

Maui Pilates: Abs Made Easy

A gentle, relaxing, Pilates-based stretch workout
Maui Pilates: Abs Made Easy is led by instructor Eva Bander and filmed on a Hawaiian beach. Although it isn't quite as focused on abs as the title suggests, it is certainly "easy" in that it's a very gentle program, more of a mat-based stretching routine with some Pilates moves thrown in. The DVD is chaptered to include a short Introduction by Eva, and the workout itself includes three segments, Warm-Up, Abs, and Back.

Surprisingly, the Warm-Up was the longest section at 20.5 minutes. Eva begins in a seated cross-legged position for breathing, overhead reaches, shoulder rolls, and spine/neck stretches; she also brings the legs forward for a seated forward bend. She then moves into a side saddle position for a slow twist to both sides, and she continues stretching with the legs in cobbler's and straddle positions. The Pilates mermaid follows, and finally, Eva comes back to a cross-legged position for some final shoulder/neck stretches to complete the warm-up. For the...

Very good therapeutic yoga/pilates mix
This DVD may be better entitled therapeutic pilates for back & abs. It is a very relaxing, slow moving routine that will help people with chronic back and body pain and/or older people. I use it on days when I am not feeling well to get some movement and stretching throughout my body. Eva Bondar has developed this all-floor routine (no standing required) with a lovely ocean front setting. The filming is somewhat low resolution and a bit of haze in the air on this day on the west coast of Maui (quite common). There is no music, but you can hear the ocean waves as Eva narrates with voice over. The routine is primarily yoga postures with a good hold times, repeats, and breathing. There's lots of forward bends, back bends, and side bends. There are only a few pilates moves and it may be boring if you're looking for a challenging pilates workout.

Some of my favorite stretches are included with interesting variation. Eva adds point/flexing, rotations, relaxation, and breathing...

Maui Pilates: Abs Made Easy
This has to be one of the best Pilate stretch and Ab videos on the market, as far as I am concerned.
It has everything you could ask for in a stretch video.
Eva is a wonderful instructor who takes you through each move slowly, and precisely. Every move is very easy to follow and flows from one to the other with no jerky confusing moves.
The settiing couldn't be more beautiful. Filmed on a beautiful beach in Maui Hawaii. The only sound you hear is Eva's voice and the tranquil sound of the waves as they roll into shore.
It's a program designed for any age or fitness level. I myself am 65 and have found that over the years my range of movement seems to be getting smaller and smaller. And with 5 and 6 year old granchildren who expect me to be their playmate when they come over. I can't allow myself to become as stiff as a fence post.
Eva's program is perfect. I love it!!!!!! It's something I look forward too each day.
It's a wonderful way to start your day if...

Full Moon Fables

Loved It
The movie is wonderful. It is wittty and down right funny while giving a true interpretation of the issues regarding Art and Film making. I find myself watching the three fables over and over. The first one is my favorite but the third is right up there with it.
I highly recomend it.
Jerry

enjoyed it :)
as the other reviews seem to mention - it is a "pay attention" film. it is 3 films that go together.

i have watched it a few times. each time i notced something new that i may have missed previously. my favorite was actually the 2nd film - probably because of the "biz" comments and i'm a sucker for 'wizard of oz' - so that part made me smile.

i suggest watching it a few times. also possibly with a variety of people who might each understand a different reference the film comments on.

:)

Full Moon Fables
I loved it. If you love good quality independent films, this is a must see!! It's well written and the acting and cinematography are great. The first is my favorite and leaves you uplifted. The second is a hoot if you follow all the jabs in reference to Hollywood and the "biz." I really enjoyed it all the way around.

Court of Lonely Royals

An under-the-radar masterpiece
This film is just what I look for in a drama. Honestly, a movie hasn't facinated this much since I saw Mad Cowgirl or Beautiful Sunshine of a Spotless Mind. It's a trippy, maudlin film, populated with blase, over-medicated youth.

The acting and characterization are superb at evoking emotion and sparking the viewer's interest. At no point was I bored or doubting the character's actions. The direction is also unappoligetically experimental and exotic; the black and white scenes are utilized to denote a sense of glamor that I didn't think was possible. I've never seen cinematography done that way and to such good effect. There's also a lot of (black?) humor that adds a welcome touch to the unique storyline.

Part of what I think a lot of people are missing about this movie is that this is really a drama. Not an action flict. Not a "suspense mystery." Don't listen to people who put this film down, because it's likely they don't care for experimental directing or the...

Burst Angel: Volume Two - A New Tokyo

Worth Owning
This show is definitely worth the money. Seen both volumes and I'm more than a little hooked at this point. Its got blood, impressive use of cgi and beautiful girls operating giant robots. Sound good? Its in many ways a darker version of Bubblegum Crisis but is so much better in my humble opinion (particularly in the violence department). Looks like its going to be about a five disc series. Hope to own all of them. Can't wait for Vol. 3.

Wild!
I've been a fan of anime for many years and this is another great short series. Lots of action, suspense, and romance. Anyone who likes anime shows will want to watch this one!

Slow but Not Boring
In volume two of Burst Angel, the constant, heart-pounding action that was everywhere in the first volume has slowed down a bit, but volume two isn't boring in any way. Where the action slows, the character revelations fill in, introducing us better to the protagonists. It also reveals a bit more of the history and the driving force behind the four-woman task force in Burst Angel.

The DVD itself has four episodes, but really should be considered two, as they are actually two, two parters, much like in volume one. This makes the sub-plots in each story seem less rushed than in single episode sub-plots, and lets you sink in a little better to the story. The advantage of having the DVD is that you are able to see these episodes in one shot. It wouldn't work if you were watching it on a weekly basis on TV. Episodes five and six deal with a mysterious hulucinatory drug that has infested an upper-class Christian School, causing the girls there to slowly slip into states of...

Heathcliff: Fish Tales

Memories
I got this for my daughter for Christmas because I remember watching this show as a kid. Still the same cartoon, not computer generated like most of the throwback shows are now days. Very happy!

My niece loved the dvd
My niece, Isabella, loved this dvd, but I give it 4 stars, because it only lasted one cycle, before she got bored of it, unlike her Cailou dvd's she can watch over and over.. but she liked it..

Bickford Shmeckler's Cool Ideas

Braingasm
Patrick Fugit is Bickford Schmeckler, a loner who lives in the basement of a busy frat house, writing down his "cool ideas" in a large metal book. Olivia Wilde is the beautiful (and smart) girl who throws his world into a tailspin by stealing it from his room. When further mischief gets his book published and distributed around campus, Bickford must come to terms with his own behavior, and decide whether to live his ideas or keep them locked away in his book.

Of course, the hot chick and nerd hook up. He won't stop acting like an emo kid and she dumps him. They get back together, kiss kiss, make-up garbage. And to think, all he had to do was write a "sex poem".

This film is for the most part, funny and light-hearted. Director Scott Lew packs a lot of typical college humor in (party mishaps, D&D geeks who hang out in a comic shop - one of which is John Cho from Harold & Kumar!, etc.), but it all works -- I even found the bits with Matthew Lillard as a campus...

A Different Kind of College Comedy
A nerdy college outcast , Bickford Shmeckler (Patrick Fugit of Almost Famous fame) has written a book of ideas about the nature of existence that would make the average persons head spin. While pondering an ending to his book, a sorority girl, Sarah (Olivia Wilde) "borrows" the book and is blown away by it's insights. She gives the book to a friend, who gives to another person and another until Bickford's writings are being passed all around campus.

As he hunts down his prized possession he has the joy of being introduced to a few strange characters that have come into contact with the book. Matthew Lillard is a crazy homeless guy who believes in extra-terrestrial beings who control his thoughts and thinks Bickford can get them to leave. John Cho leads an AD&D group that drops everything to spread the gospel of the book (a la Mao's little red book). It turns out everyone who reads the book either has a mental orgasm or feels enlightened by the thoughts on life, the universe...

A Sensible Comedy
I didn't expect much from this movie, but I was pleasantly surprised. Some classify it as a sex comedy, but at its heart it really isn't any such thing. Yes, there are a couple of semi-nude scenes, but they really aren't central to the story. Instead, this is a story about the anxiety of losing one's diary. In this case, it isn't a social life diary, but an intellectual life diary. All kinds of comical situations arise when Bickford's precious book is stolen by a young vixen, then lost by her boyfriend. It is a pleasant surprise to watch a movie where one's intellect, as expressed in 'the book,' is admired by all who come into contact with this unusual diary. There is a bit of coarse language, but not as much as is usual in these type of comedies. Also, the laughs do not arise out of slapstick drivel, but out of the unexpected logical outcome of its setup.

Innocent Venus 1: Cruel World Order

Excellent series and a good product
This is DVD 1 of 3 of the exciting and captivating Innocent Venus series; episodes 1,2,3,4. You can get a plot synopsis from other websites if you need one; my main concern is reviewing the product that is being sold here. It is a very basic, single DVD with no real bonus features; however, the sound and video quality are excellent.

It has English audio track in addition to a Japanese option with English subtitles. It played great with absolutely no problems on my cheap DVD player I got from Walmart here in America several years ago. No guarantees on how it will do in players in other regions.

I don't normally watch special features, so this simple, affordable DVD is exactly what I was looking for.

DVD two is here: Innocent Venus, Vol. 2: Blood of Betrayal
DVD three is here: Innocent Venus, Vol. 3: The End...

Fun, fun, fun
There was only one thing that i disliked -the small boy from the pirates still is with them ...

beside this the Story is dense. The characters first seemed to be a little streotypic, but then they evolved so this vanisched.

Technically this was well made, a good sound and picture.

ordered alredy the next one, hope the core of the story becomes clear...

Anti Social Studies 101 (Escape from New York / The Usual Suspects / Leaving Las Vegas)

Anti-Social Studies 101 Triple Feature
This is a triple feature package made up of two movies I was familiar with and one I was not, "Leaving Las Vegas" which is the reason I am reviewing this triple package. My concern with this feature, though the story provides incite into a very difficult subject, is I was surprised at the onset to see x-rated scenes indicating I was not going to be watching a story for children. At age 65 I am not unaware of how the world turns and usually I read the reviews at IMDB but as I purchased this unit to get the other two movies (the Usual Suspects and Escape from New York) I hadn't done my usual research. Possibly I might have avoided the purchase if I had read at IMDB and would then have missed a movie well worth watching with a not to be missed "educational" story line. As it was, I managed to find myself surprised. The story is actually excellent, one that causes you to think of a part of existence you may or may not be intimate with. I am glad I proceeded into the movie in spite...

Edgar Goes to the Doctor, World of Foods, and Rock Stars. It also includes bonus features, such as still photographs of the characters and 3 music videos (if you buy the DVD brand new, it also includes a poster of Toofy). The bedbugs sing fun, catchy songs throughout the episodes and have the same problems that young children face sometimes. The content is age-appropriate for preschool and elementary children

My Bedbugs a big hit!
We got the My Bedbugs Let's Play video after reading an article describing the education research that goes into developing the episodes. I showed the video to my three year old, one time and then asked her what she learned from the characters. Her adorable answer warmed my heart and made me feel so good about my purchase! She said, "Get a hug, brush your teeth, clean up your mess, get a cuddle."

I love the fact that routine, personal responsibility and lots of love were all conveyed in one simple and entertaining message and that message hit its mark in one viewing.

I'm off to order more My Bedbugs!

Fracture (Widescreen Edition)

This psychological thriller held our attention -here's why
First of all, the movie starts off with a murder and you know who the murderer is. So it isn't a suspense story as much as a psychological thriller, the type that pits two very strong personalities against one another (played by Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling).
Each is a control freak and each is ambitious. The whole thrill of this movie is watching the characters, seeing how they develop and change and wondering how this will all play out.
Looking at the reviews that others have written for this movie, it is clear that people tended to love or hate this movie -and I think I understand why. For one thing, you KNOW what happened -and why -almost from the start. But I happen to like character-driven movies and this one is definitely in that vein. Yes, Hopkins does seem to recreate his Hannibel Lechter personalty (or hints of it) but that worked out fine in this instance.

Fracture - a review
Fracture is a great psychological drama that stars Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling. Fracture is a film with qualities reminiscent of Alfred Hitchcock era that really left me guessing until the very end. Gosling's performance as a young smitten lawyer named Willie Beachum is something to applaud. I was not impressed when he was cast in a crime thriller called "Murder by Numbers" with Sandra Bullock a few years ago, but those thoughts are now erased from my memory. Beachum takes on the case of a successful engineer named Ted Crawford, who is accused of attempted murder. As the clues become less and less presentable, Beachum suddenly realizes that Crawford is playing some sort of game, and it is a game of chance and elaborate mind games that Beachum just might win.

Fracture did not douse me with puzzles, in fact it really held back in that area and yet the continual drama that played out between the two main characters was more than enough to keep me not just guessing,...

Classy, Entertaining Battle-Of-Wits Story
If you like courtroom dramas, appreciate excellent acting and an expertly-filmed movie this is for you. Only once, I think, have I ever proclaimed something "best movie of the year" and all that, because it's all too subjective and also a cliché but that's how I feel about this movie unless something better comes along the last few months of 2007.

This is just a fabulous movie with Anthony Hopkins and Ryan Gosling playing characters who engage in a battle of wits. Hopkins plays a husband who discovers his wife having an affair, shoots her, confesses the same night and then has things cleverly arranged where it's almost impossible to convict him. Gosling plays a young, hotshot prosecuting attorney on his way to bigger and better things with a change of scenery to corporate law but gets stuck with this open-and-shut case right before he switches firms. The trouble is, it's a lot more than he figured and he isn't used to losing. Hopkins knows this, of course, and plays...

Doctor Strange: The Sorcerer Supreme

Pleasant surprise, given the 1978 version
The biggest surprise is that this DVD didn't make you feel embarrassed for the creators, unlike the 1978 made for TV movie. This direct to DVD show is fairly watchable, and stays vaguely true to the Dr. Strange mythos - Wong, Mordo, Dormammu, the Ancient one are all here. Mordo is still a good guy gone bad. The animation is very similar to Marvel's other animated efforts.

While a bit more "Kung Fu Fighting" than one might expect, I'm sure the target audience is not 50 year old collectors of silver age comics. In this regard however, one misses the sometimes amazing visuals that artist Steve Ditko brought to the original 1960's comic book series. After all, Dr. Strange was one of Marvel's more cerebral characters.

Bottom line - a nice DVD to share with kids, or for Marvel fan boys.

Strange, this is Good!
The new Marvel animated made for video films have been hit and miss. In watching Dr Strange, they have found a great retelling of the Strange mythos with a modern day twist of the day.

The animation is crisper in color and hue. The storytelling on the Strange film is par to most feature films

For fans of the comic adaventures of Dr Strange will NOT be disappointed. Those new fans will enjoy this production as well.

It comes down to this, IS IT WORTH IT? I say this..it is an amazing production and would hope that those at Lion's Gate and Marvel retell more stories of Dr Strange. If it does not happen, well it is their Loss

Bennet Pomerantz AUDIOWORLD

It's about time
Well after the lackluster The Invincible Iron Man and the dissapointing Ultimate Avengers 2 they finally got it right. Doctor Strange: Sorcerer Supreme is everything I loved about the comics with a little kung fu too. The score was funny though, there are strains from the score of Lady in the Water and even part of a song from Charlotte's Web (the cartoon film of the 80's, I think). But it was nice all the same. Now, as far as Avengers Reborn...God it looks awful. I hope it's not as bad as it seems. It just seems a rotten idea, a total ploy to get the "kids demographic". I'm sick of all these movies trying to appeal to this or that audience. Have the artistic integrity to make the film you want to make, if the source material supports it then do it. But as soon as you start thinking about trying to get this type or that type or another type to like your film, pretty soon you have something so vague and watered down that no one ends up liking it.

The Busy Bee Dogs Present The 3 Three Little Pigs

Wonderful Wholesome Fun - A Must See!
In an age where so much of kids' content is computer generated bells & whistles, it's heart-warming to see how their imaginations are captured by by these adorable and highly trained dogs. Through the course of the video, the personality of each is developed, and you find yourself rooting for the princess dog, or the dog with the california surfer drawl. As a dog trainer myself, I was delighted to see the dogs actually opening doors, laying bricks, and doing a multitude of amazing tricks! My hat off to all the wonderful dog actors!

Featuring the classic fairy tale of the Three Little Pigs with a twist
The Busy Bee Dogs Present... The Three Little Pigs is a DVD for viewers ages 3 and up featuring the classic fairy tale of the Three Little Pigs with a twist - the pigs and the Big Bad Wolf are all played by lovable canine actors! A Hickory Dickory Dock sing-along and a segment inviting viewers to exercise with the dogs, a hidden bee game, and a paper insert with discussion questions and activities round out this enriching and mentally stimulating DVD for children's collections. Highly recommended. 30 minutes, color.

Awesome video for dog lovers!
My four year old daughter is absolutely captivated by this video! The catchy songs, colorful graphics, and lovable dogs make this one of her favorite videos. From a parent's perspective, I appreciate the fresh, creative approach of this video - using real dogs to tell a classic story with a new message that enforces positive social skills. From a teacher's perspective, this video helps children with the early literacy skill of rhyming through song and repetition, therefore making it great for kindergarten readiness.

Back To School (Extra-Curricular Edition)

Farewell, Rodney, You've Graduated At Last
As the word reaches us that Rodney Dangerfield has died without waking up from his coma, we take this occasion to salute him by viewing one more time his comedy classic, "BACK TO SCHOOL." Adrienne Barbeau is in it, playing a trophy wife of yesteryear, grasping and unfaithful, she's only in it for the money any more. Thornton Melon runs a men's store called, "TALL AND FAT," and I would have liked to see a whole sequel to BACK TO SCHOOL that focussed on the day to day life of running this haberdashery. Anyway he's rich enough to be able to afford to hire Kurt Vonnegut, Jr. to write a term paper for him. Sam Kinison is in the movie too as the history professor--crazy and out of this world! And Sally Kellerman is more subdued than usual playing Diane Turner, the English professor who, in a memorable scene, makes Rodney analyze the meaning of Dylan Thomas' famous poem, "Do Not Go Gentle Into That Good Night."

Robert Downey Jr is in the movie too, he's always good for a...

Funny, but make sure you get the NEWER DVD release!
After his appearance on Leno recently, it seems Rodney Dangerfield is losing his touch due to age and his admitted pot smoking. He still had it in Back to School, however. This has always been a good way to spend 90 minutes or so to get some laughs. Along with Caddyshack and Easy Money, it's his best work.

Be careful of which DVD version you buy. There are two floating around out there and they both look the same until you make a close inspection of the back cover. MGM quietly slipped this new transfer out there with the same cover without as much as a peep. The original copy was non-anamorphic widescreen and was a poor transfer with some framing issues. The new one is a great improvement with anamorphic widescreen and 5.1 Surround Sound. You have to look at the bottom left of the back cover. You will see 16:9 Widescreen 1.85:1 versus the old one which did not have the '16:9' printed above the word Widescreen. The free booklet with the older copy was nice but the new anamorphic...

A CLASSIC! Dangerfield's best!
This is one of those movies I can watch every six months because of the great humor and story Dangerfield stars in. Dangerfield goes back to college to be closer to his son and the funny one-liners and humor really come together in this funny and intriguing comedy. I also enjoyed Dangerfield's acting in which he has to earn the respect of his son at school and how he cares about father-and-son issues. I think Dangerfield is at his best here and it's unfortunate we haven't seen another film like this from him and I simply have to call this film a comedy classic!

While I bought this tri-pack for BILL & TED, I am able to wacth the other two I've never seen. I remeber as a teen wacthing BILL & TED on tv and thought the concept was great. It's basilly BACK TO THE FUTURE but with humour.

Get the movie you really want to see instead....
I was browsing Amazon for the Spinal Tap dvd ,when I came across this 3 DVD pack.It seemed like a good buy since I had seen Airheads and I liked the movie.I wonder why/how Bill and Ted's excellent adventure fits into this compilation. While Spinal tap and AIrheads qualify to be called rock n' roll flicks,B&T is an extremely kiddish flick ( looks dated in 2008 )and apart from a few stray refernces to their band and some rock star names thrown in,is no way a rock flick.I could think of so many other flicks which would have rounded off this compilation better.Am not sure if they belonged to the MGM catalogue, but even then,Im sure the MGM guys would have found something more relevant to this theme if they looked up their library.I'd recommend that you buy the DVD of the movie you want, rather than invest in this pack.

Once Upon a Time in China: Next Chapters Collection

Much better than the previous Videoasia Wong Fei Hung multipack
FIST FROM SHAOLIN-

This is a ripoff of Tsui Hark's 'Once Upon a Time in China' series. Wong Fei Hung is played by a man who looks a bit older than Jet Li and he is an excellent screen fighter. Lam Sai Wing, Aunt 13, Kwan and Bucktooth are all played by lesser actors. The story is weak, but the kung fu is good. The wirework is bad at times, but overall the fights are very well choreographed. Recommended to fans of Wong Fei Hung movies, others should probably pass on it.

3.5/5

Picture quality is surpsingly good.

~ Christmas Comes But Once a Year - an orphanage of children get a surprise visit from a jolly man who dresses up as Santa and creates toys out of ordinary household items
~ Hector's Hectic Life - Hector the dog finds a picnic basket on his front porch and 3 puppies that coincidentally look like him pop out and wreak havoc in Hector's home. Hector tries to hide the pups from his elderly master at the risk of being thrown out of the house, himself
~ Snow-Foolin' - This cartoon begins with a bunch of animals coping with winter weather and transitions into a "Jingle Bells" sing-a-long

Blue Crush / Honey / Josie and the Pussycats (Triple Feature)

Great deal for some popcorn fun.
(This isn't *exactly* a review of the movies themselves; you can look at the IMDb, Rotten Tomatoes, or MetaCritic websites to view others' opinions, if you're so inclined.)

Now, to put it plainly, none of these movies are exactly "A" Quality. They're the sort of popcorn movies you watch with some friends, or by yourself as a sort of guilty pleasure. That said, you watch these with a different level of quality in mind than you would for other films; the same way you would "B-Movies," or horror/slasher films - whether you should do that or not is up for debate of course, but I feel if you do so, you can come away pleasantly surprised more often than disappointed.

I knew these three movies were not generally regarded as being very good, but I wanted to see them anyway; both to judge for myself, and see the work of the actors/actresses in them.

This 'Triple Feature' dvd is a great way to view these films without spending too much money, or take up too...

I like these kinds of movies
Just fun movies without to deep a story line. Honey is about dance, and who doesn't like to see jessica alba dance. Josie and the pussycats is just a campy comedy but one which I have liked for years and have rewatched many times. Blue Crush is not so much my style but but many will probably enjoy more than the other two(but I don't)

La Leyenda De Una Mascara

Engaging Flick!
This mystery surrounding the legend of "Angel Enmascarado" is a surprisingly good quality melodrama. Obviously based on the Santo legacy, a tabloid reporter named Olmo Robles tries to uncover the true identity of Angel Enmascarado following the wrestler's death. Bit by bit, Robles uncovers scandals and questions surrounding the wrestler's life, and gets involved a little deeper than he intended.

I found it interesting that while this movie itself is pretty good, the few wrestling scenes are some of the worst ever caught on film. Ironic because there have been many lucha libre movies in which the film was abysmal, but the wrestling scenes were excellent.

The story is very well paced, and has that vintage lucha libre/comic book hero aura. The mystery builds to a pretty good climax, but then fizzles with a weak "To Be Continued" ending. Considering that this film was made nearly fifteen years ago, I doubt the sequel will happen, so I guess we'll have to make up our...

Murderous Intent

A Dark, Finely Wrought Mystery of the Highest Caliber!
For some strange reason the very fine Australian/British film LIKE MINDS underwent a name change and hit the US market as MURDEROUS INTENT. The original title is so much more apropos of the story: the alternate title tends to make the audience pass over 'just another death film' category that prevents this excellent little film from appealing to a wide audience. Writer/Director Gregory J. Reed and his talented cast and production staff deserve better as this is a stunning psychological drama well worth seeing.

The setting is an all boys' prep school and among the students is Alex (a very fine young Eddie Redmayne) who happens to be the son of the headmaster (Patrick Malahide) and is a brilliant scholar - if somewhat of a troublemaker at the same time. Into this setting arrives a new student Nigel (an equally fine young Tom Sturridge) who is a darkly quiet, malevolent, bright lad preoccupied with history and necrophilia. The two boys are placed together as roommates, much...

The British And Aussies Do This So Well!
Why is it that only the British and Australians can bring this kind of intense mysterious suspense film to life and breathe into it the essence that carries you along for the ride. The young cast is perfectly placed in their parts. And if Tom Sturridge doesn't ignite some teenage hearts with his looks and become a big star there is no justice...especially since he can act his way out of several paper bags at once. Toni Collete by no means lets the young men surrounding her steal anything away from her screen presence and her performance resonates with the deep abiding fear that begins to grow in the back of her mind as she investigates this murder, if indeed that's what it is. I won't dwell on the plot because it spoils the fun. Eddie Redmayne has to carry the crux of the story and this fine young actor never lets you down. Everybody is spot on including one of my favorite old pros - Patrick Malahide. For suspense that builds until you slip off the edge of your seat...see this...

Not much potential, but what there is is wasted
Gregory J. Read's Like Minds, aka Murderous Intent, is one of those would-be ambitious low-budget psychological thrillers that makes for a better trailer than a film, with forensic psychiatrist Toni Collette trying to discover whether egotistical public schoolboy Eddie Redmayne is really responsible for the shooting of his sociopathic 'best friend' Tom Sturridge. Gestalt and the spectre of unhealthily attracted like minds like Leopold and Loeb and Hindley and Brady are evoked, but the script is really too trite and unfocused to make any dramatic capital out of them, while the references to the Masons, Thomas Becket, the Cathars and the Knights Templar are simultaneously vague and crushingly heavy-handed. Rather than showing the growing compulsion that draws the two boys together, the film oh so flatly tells us with excessive narration as if trying to paper over the cracks in post-production and hide the fact there's no on screen connection between the pair. Depending heavily on only...

Wild Hogs (Widescreen Edition)

HILARIOUS
I am not one to usually write reviews on movies, and I can't stand the people who try to analyze every little aspect of movies and write novels of their opinions instead of just enjoying them for what they are - entertainment!! That being said, I saw this with my mom, and I thought we would fall out of our chairs we were laughing so hard! I LOVE funny movies, and VERY rarely do I see one that makes me laugh this hard, so I just had to write this since the critics were so awful to this movie. Travolta, Allen, Lawrence and Macy are great together, and I didn't know that Ray Liotta (one of my faves!) was in the movie. This just made it even better! The entire movie was excellent - I can't wait to buy the DVD in August!

A great cast makes this a great movie
Wild Hogs is a typical midlife crisis movie. Four men, who have been friends for years and who suit up in leather and ride to the local bar and grill regularly to hang out, suddenly wonder what happened to their lives. They all realize, one by one, that they've hit middle age and fallen into a rut, and they decide to take a cross country trip on their bikes to get out of it.

This is one of the more entertaining movies I've seen in a while. What made it for me, however, was not the plot or even the comedic moments but rather the excellent performances by a great cast. John Travolta plays the cool-guy-in-a-midlife-crisis role perfectly, and Tim Allen pulls off his when-did-my-life-get-so-bland part flawlessly as well. Throw in great performances by Martin Lawrence, a man desperate to get out from under his overbearing wife's thumb, and William H. Macy, a geek who hopes he can FINALLY do something that will make him cool, and you've got a great group of main...

Don't take it too seriously, just enjoy it.
Instead of listening to the critics who have savaged this film, check it out yourself and you may actually enjoy it. It's a story that almost anyone 40 or older who has ever dreamed of riding a motorcycle can relate to. The central characters are four middle aged guys, Doug (Tim Allen), a dentist who hardly knows the meaning of fun anymore, Bobby (Martin Lawrence), a henpecked plumber, Woody (John Travolta), a lawyer who, with his supermodel wife and lucrative career, seems to have it all but has secretly fallen on hard times and Dudley (William H. Macy), an extremely naive, geeky computer programmer. The four decide, once and for all, to live a little and to take a cross country road trip on their Harleys. Along the way, they have a series of misadventures that really get interesting when they run into the Del Fuegos gang who's leader Jack (Ray Liotta) takes an immediate disliking to this bunch of yuppies pretending to be real bikers. The guys later find themselves in a...

Baby Looney Tunes, Vol. 4

Great DVD!
I got this for my 4-year-old for her birthday; she has watched it over and over.

gammy
My Grandson loves Baby Looney Tunes. I too enjoy them. I hope they never stop making good ole'cartoons like these.

4-yr old loves it!
My son will watch this one over and over. His favorite character is Taz because of his crazy, all-over-the-place, chaotic antics. He thinks it's just hilarious. He particularly likes the "To Tell the Tooth" episode, mainly because Taz is a starring character and he cracks him up. His other favorite is "Christmas in July" because what kid doesn't like the idea of getting what you really want/need at another time of the year that's not Christmas or a birthday. It's sweet how all Lola's friends want to help her feel better when she is frustrated and sad, and work together to figure it out.

In general, Baby Looney Tunes can be a little preachy for my taste, but I DO like how they present the different personalities of the toddler animals interacting, playing and disagreeing, and working it all out with a little guidance from the very gentle and loving wise ol' Granny. They do a good job of showing how kids' friendships work, angry feelings and all, portraying realistic ways of...

Vacancy

I didn't see some of the creepiest parts coming...scared me!
If you've seen every horror movie out there, maybe this one won't do anything for you. It definitely kept me watching for these reasons:

1. The couple, Luke Wilson and Kate Beckinsale, are having marital troubles. This is a nice twist on the formulaic "couple is in love, has sex, gets killed" theme. You won't find that here.

2. They end up in a really run-down motel run by a truly whacky guy.

3. Things get very frightening and it isn't the usual slasher flick. There are some nice twists and turns here...well, maybe not nice..but definitely riveting.

4. I was surprised several times and screamed my head off. You don't really want me to reveal much more, do you? If you're looking for a horror film, I assume you want to know if you're likely to get scared silly. Based on my reaction, I'd say yes. I also wanted to know how this was going to affect this couple's marriage. I mean, stick two estranged people in a motel with a psycho and see how...

Atmospheric with Some Creepy Moments But Lacks Originality
After their car breaks down somewhere off the highway at midnight, a young (and bickering) married couple Kate Beckinsale and Luke Wilson check into an old motel. When they think they are the only guests staying there that night, strange things start to happen, including some banging noises from the next room.

With its nice opening title back and score that strongly remind us of Hitchcock, "Vacancy" is an old-fashioned thriller that does not rely on gores to raise its tension. That works to some extent with the effective performances from the leads and atmospheric photography by Andrzej Sekula. Hungarian director Nimród Antal ("Kontroll") manages to make us jump with several scary moments at first, but the film's tension slowly vanishes as the story unfolds.

For what "Vacancy" shows remains (for me) very familiar. The story here belongs to the territory of urban legends including disturbing images recorded on old VCRs, but slick as it is, the film fails to...

Expect modest adult thrills--then sit back for a treat
As an adult horror/thriller film viewer for *&^% decades, I am disappointed in most everything that comes out these days. VACANCY is a pleasant surprise, but I think one's expectations need to be modest. Also, the film requires a mature, savvy viewer who is tired of teenagers getting in trouble and being stupid, then heroic, then stupidly heroic. Adult thrills done with an aesthetic sensibility and yet delivering something palpable and strong are hard to come by these days. If you agree, catch VACANCY. (Also, watch the alternative opening under special features--hard to believe they shot this and had the integrity and audacity not to use it.)

The Lookout

BUY THE RIGHT VERSION!!!!!!
So this is a warning to anyone who likes this movie and has seen it before. There are two versions of this film on Blu-ray! The one originally released back in 2007 with the silver swoosh running down the cover and the words "Beyond High Definition" in the bottom right corner is the one to get. This new one released by Echo Bridge has manipulated the aspect ratio of the movie so that there are no black bars on top or bottom! Essentially they've zoomed in on the image so you lose part of the picture on the right and left side of the screen. Don't let the low price fool you! This is a corrupted version of the film, and if you have any respect for the filmmakers' intentions for the look of the movie you will not purchase this version! Or, if you're like me and find out once you watch it for the first time, I implore you to return it and send Echo Bridge a message that we will not support the altering of films! Of course, if you haven't seen the movie before you would never notice the...

Noir suspense thriller with terrific performances work checking out
"The Lookout" got overlooked when it was released earlier in the year. This unusual thriller directed and written by Scott Frank focuses as much on character as it does on the tense, moody atmosphere. Chris (Joseph Gordon-Levitt)had it all; he was a bright kid who also displayed talent in the hockey rink. Chris, his girlfriend and another couple are involved in a terrible car accident that leaves Chris brain damaged. He's unable to do anything more than simple tasks and can't even remember what change he should get back after buying a beer.

SPOILERS AHEAD**

When Chris gets sucked into a plan to rip off the bank where he is a janitor by smooth talking slime ball Gary Spargo (Mathew Goode), he finds himself over his head and with nowhere to turn. Initially Chris believes this will provide him with the start up money for a business he wants to start with his blind roommate Lewis (Jeff Daniels)but things spiral out of control and suddenly he has nowhere to turn...

Unexpectedly Smart, Brutal, And Uncompromising--"The Lookout" Makes A Tired Story Seem New Again
Within the traditional crime drama genre, it has become increasingly difficult to find serious minded films that don't play as "hip and ironic." Add a young leading man to the equation, and it's twice as likely that you'll end up with a movie filled with artifice and self-awareness. In fact, reading the description of "The Lookout," I was sure that this picture would be just another film where clever one-liners were more important than generating actual suspense and drama. I couldn't have been more wrong! "The Lookout" is a tough and believable entry in the arena of heist films. Bolstered by a powerful lead performance by Joseph Gordon-Levitt, this film is both true to the conventions of crime genre and surprisingly different. The film succeeds with strong character development and provides an intriguing twist on the traditional protagonist.

Here, Gordon-Levitt plays a man coping with severe memory loss, control issues, and occasional motor skill inconsistencies...

Avatar The Last Airbender - Book 2 Earth, Vol. 4

Really for everyone
Some of the kids in my daughters school started showing up with blue arrows on their foreheads, so I asked what it meant, being the dumb grownup that I am. Avatar, was the answer, and one of the other children brought a copy the next day for "everyone" (me, my wife and our daughter) to watch. Now I have never shrunk from watching endless repeats of Finding Nemo, or Cars, but I was not prepared for the Avatar phenomenon. It drew me right in and has held my attention though each episode, and I sometimes think I like it more than my own daughter likes it. There is nothing not to like about this series and it is truly for every age group, which is pretty amazing.

One of the other parents I know passed on Avatar, without watching any, claiming it was too violent, too much war, blah, blah. In fact, it is about a world at war, and a very long war. And there is some violence, although I do not believe a single character has been killed, nor has anyone shed blood. There have...

I am addicted to this SHOW!
ZUKO....you either love the twerp...or ya HATE him. *sighs* I love this show! I could watch it over again and again! It is fantastic, and I am constantly pleasantly surprised! (THOUGH I still want to wack ZUKO on the head!) *ahem* Love all the other characters though! LOVE THIS SHOW...PERIOD!

Damn crossroads...
THe final episodes of Season 2 were just wonderful. A bit disappointed in what Zuko did, but then you can;t have a story without twists and turns.

Nature: Alaska

Alaska never looked so good or taught me so much
Part One: A Mystery In Alaska

Stellar Sea Lion populations have steady declined in recent times and this first installment takes an exhaustive look at various elements that may be contributing to this dilemma. At the onset of this search for answers, whales, water pollution, fishing nets, and weather conditions are just some of the factors that are examined as possible causes for the dwindling sea lion numbers.

Further in-depth investigation by scientists and other experts uncovers clues pointing toward disturbing fluctuations of fish species due to a complex set of reasons. With Herring being a major food source for sea lions and numerous other competing species, their depleted stocks are at unstable levels and this plays a significant role in the sea lion crisis. The scope of the research conducted and the subject material in this beginning segment is impressive, revealing, and interesting on many different levels.

Part Two: Sled Dogs - An...
